Governor Kathy Hochul has warned New Yorkers to prepare for a significant snowstorm, forecasted to impact the state starting from Monday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday evening.. The Capital Region, Central New York, Mohawk Valley and North Country regions could see up to 18 inches of snow while higher elevations in the Adirondacks and Catskill Mountains could receive more than a foot.

New York City and Long Island are expected to see less accumulating snow. but some rain mixed in will make travel difficult at times. A few areas in eastern Pennsylvania could see snowfall totals near a half-foot or more with this system. This includes Bradford, Wyoming and Lackawanna counties. The FOX Forecast Center is paying close attention to the potential for snow in the Northeast this weekend. Throughout the season, moisture and cold air have failed to synchronize, resulting in limited snowfall accumulations at best.. New York City is looking at just a couple inches of the white stuff, while Boston and Washington, D.C., will probably have to settle for a few flakes as well.

Forecasters predict that the higher elevations of the region will experience the heaviest snowfall, with accumulations expected to reach several feet in places like the Catskills and southern Adirondacks of New York state, the Berkshires and Worcester Hills of Massachusetts, the Monadnocks and White Mountains of New Hampshire, and the southern Green Mountains of Vermont. Forecasters expect the precipitation to shift from rain to snow as the elevation increases.
